SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
Plug the unit into the trailer and the red power indicator on the cigarette lighter adapter does not come on. A. Tester battery is dead.

2. Check connection inside the case, between cigarette lighter and battery.

3. Recharge (if rechargeable) or replace the battery in the unit.

The power indicator is on, but pushing the buttons on the remote has no effect. No clicking sound inside the unit. And, there’s no short circuit indication. A. There’s a loose connector.

B. The battery inside the remote control is dead.

C. The battery in the unit is dead (or low charge).

1. Make sure power is turned on.

2. Check that the connection to the trailer is secure.

3. Replace battery for the unit, or recharge (if rechargeable).

4. Replace battery in the remote control (12v camera battery).

The red light on the remote control is dim or off. The battery inside the remote is dead or going dead. Unscrew the 3 screws from the back of the remote and replace battery, 23A 12v alkaline camera battery.
The power indicator is on, and when you push each button on the remote, the trailer light goes off before you release the button. The short circuit indicator is off. The battery is not sufficiently charged. Charge the battery.
Push a button on the remote and a short circuit indicator on the unit or the plug comes on. Overload from possible short circuit on the trailer. Find the short on the trailer and fix it.
Push a button on the remote and the light(s) on the trailer that are supposed to come on, don’t. A. There’s an open circuit on the trailer.

B. The unit isn’t securely plugged into the trailer.

1. Check that the connection to the trailer is secure.

2. Check the trailer’s connector to the bulb in question. Replace that bulb?

3. Fix the trailer wiring to that bulb.

4. Double check that short circuit indicator on the unit did not come on.

5. If in bright sunlight, you may not be able to see if the trailer light is on. Shade the light a bit, to see if the light is coming on.

Hold down any button on the remote control for longer, say 5-10 seconds, and the trailer lights go off, not on, and the circuit breaker comes on. This built-in feature automatically disconnects the circuit after 5-10 seconds. This automatic disconnect prevents damage to the unit and overuse of the battery. Just wait 10 seconds to try the remote again. The unit will reset itself.
